The Beatles | The White Album
My first Tape:
Guns N' Roses | Use Your Illusion v.1
My first CD:
Red Hot Chili Peppers | Mother's Milk
My first MP3:
De La Soul | The Bizness

My brother is almost eight years older than me so I was introduced to a lot of music early on. I cut my teeth on the Grateful Dead, George Clinton, and Bob Marley- all the while my friends were rocking their California Raisins (one of my own early personal favorites).
Artists I "discovered" on my own include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dr. Dre, De la Soul, 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, The Beastie Boys, The Beatles,. Since those days, I've headed in a few different directions. But if you're a regular, you are already aware of that.
I was introduced to DJ Shadow as a freshman at Indiana University Bloomington in 1999. His first full-length album, Endtroducing, gave my wandering ear somewhere to rest- and opened my eyes to a whole world of electronica.
Beyond Shadow, my college years were consumed by electronica. At some point, I dabbled in all the big subgenres- house, electroclash, trance, techno, bigbeat, downtempo, turntablism, dnb, progressive, idm, jungle, minimalist, dub, lounge, deep house, eurohouse, french house, electrodisco, acid jazz, nujazz and so on.
I went public with my mixes in October 2005.

For the first-half of 2006, I was devoting probably 80 percent of my attention to classical music. I became a big fan of Mahler , Debussy, Mozart, Bruckner, Philip Glass, Glenn Gould, and most surprisingly, opera. In mid-March, I attended the Washington National Opera's Golden Gala with my mother-in-law.
The second-half of 2006 was spent exploring Jazz a bit deeper. This included Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Horace Silver, Lionel Hampton, Max Roach, Count Basie, Xavier Cugat, Sergio Mendes, Astrud Gilberto and so on. Generally, West Coast, Bossa Nova, Swing and Samba.

My friend Tim Parks is a musician in Alexandria, Virginia. I have begun developing flyers for his solo shows in and around Del Ray. Tim also hosts open mic at St. Elmo's coffee shop every third Wednesday (e.g., February 21, March 21, April 18…).
I've begun recording and editing his live performances too. I use Audacity and a USB microphone to dub his shows. Very low budget, but you can't always start with a golden spoon in your mouth, ya know? Plus, this allows me to learn the editing process from the ground up. I'll get better equipment when I deserve it.
You can see my collection of flyers for Tim Parks' solo shows and open mic nights here on flickr.
You can hear Tim live here on podOmatic.
In late December, I provided the soundtrack for Doctor Mo's podcast The Danger Zone. The mix was originally my December 25 tribute mix following James Brown's passing. Look for another collaboration with Doctor Mo in the near future.
Vinyl is back in action around my house. I'm (very slowly) converting my vinyl from its beautiful analog sound to the versatile digital arena. Ideally, I'd be getting this done much faster but I've been side-tracked by a major overhaul of my archives. Once I have my digital collection backfilled and organized, I'll be able to concentrate more of my attention to conversion.
If I can ever slow down, I will finally make the investment in a good pair of tables. I think I'm nearing the maturity point to handle the real deal. (updated 02.01.07)

I've since purchased a townhouse that is under construction. It will deliver in July, and then I will have my own music studio. Pretty excited. (updated 03.25.07)

I like to throw down the beats, melodies, and sounds that have been running through my mind. Sometimes they jive, sometimes they don't. I won't lie.
But what you're hearing is always my stream of aural conscious. I've been known to mash some odd shit up. But every once in awhile I'll do something that throws you.
